At some point in life, you shake off your past and find a new pathway.

I've discovered freedom. Freedom from my upbringing (sensible first child) and now freedom from the corporate world. I began to paint in 2002 but was too impatient to use as much colour as I could on the canvas, to spend time on composition. Fast forward 18 years later and I discovered clay.
From making neat little characters at the very start of my journey, I've somehow managed to unlock my mind over the past few years to unearth various strands of childhood memories. Greek myths and monsters, Grimms fairy tales, American comicbooks, classics such as Kingsleys Water Babies, Peter Pan, The Secret Garden... all of which introduced me to worlds that were full of the unexpected. I would have sold my soul to be able to step into those worlds!
So while there is no deep meaning to the pieces I make, maybe that is the reason. I create imaginary creatures because I (or we) sometimes need to reach back and remember what it was like to be young. As for the colours and designs, I can only think that it comes from growing up with a Punjabi best friend and free time was spent trying on sari's, watching Hindi films and sharing food with her family.
Later, I travelled to the Far East and Mexico and lived in Barcelona for a while. All places that you can't help but absorb the energy and the colour!
